Not a Box: Read Aloud STEM Kit

This Read Aloud STEM Kit sparks creativity in STEM, design, and making by reading a book and then completing hands-on challenges and activities that culminate with the story and their characters.

In Not a Box by Antoinette Portis, readers explore boxes, or rather not-a-boxes, along with the main character. A box is not always what it seems! Each student receives an activity guide to read as well as to draw, write, and practice in. They can work together or individually to form their own not-a-boxes. Finally, they share their own stories, findings, or what they learned verbally or in writing.

This kit was developed in collaboration with Carly and Adam – a parent and educator duo best known for their elementary read-aloud and STEM activities – these kits are sure to create connections between reading and engineering for children and parents alike.
